The story of Castine

It all starts with Marguerite

My grandmother’s name was Marguerite.

She knitted, and more than anything, she loved sweaters. Christmas, birthdays, or really any excuse, she always wanted one.

She was the one who first put knitting needles in my hands. I was never particularly good at it. But that wasn’t really the point.

Castine was born from those afternoons we spent together in Brittany, wool between our fingers and more than a few wonky stitches.

And since marguerite means daisy in French, the flower became Castine’s signature - for her.

A Double Life

I’m Alexia, the founder of Castine. And a mom too, which is already quite a few lives to juggle.

By day, I have a serious job. Structured, rigorous, useful. All very good. Just not always very playful.

I needed somewhere else to let loose.

Castine became that place: a little freer, a little more joyful, and a little cheekier.

Off-script

At Castine, we love beautiful things. Rules, not so much.

An elegant, free-spirited, joyful style, with just the right amount of cheek.

No choosing between style and freedom, playfulness and craftsmanship, beautiful and beautifully made.

Knitwear with character, made for women who’d rather follow their own instincts than the rules.

Make less. Make it well.

Natural merino wool, RWS-certified.

Made in France, in a Normandy workshop. A sweater knitted by hands I know.

Pieces made in small quantities and designed to last far beyond a single season.

Sweaters to keep, to love, and maybe even keep asking for, year after year.

Just like my grandmother Marguerite.
